Java 6 SE end of life has been extended from July 2012 to November 2012. This is the policy of Java. Six months after a subsequent major release would be considered as default JRE. This is shorter period for everyone to move. The advantage of this kind of policy would make everyone to move to the latest version and Java team could only concentrate on new releases rather than supporting older ones.
Lucene 3.1 release includes Numerous performance improvements, Improved Analysis capabilities, Improved Unicode support and lot more.
Linus Torvalds released Linux 3.8, it is code named Unicycling Gorilla. It has various improvements in FileSystem, Drivers, Security, Virtualization, Graphics and Networking.

Solr's version number was synced with Lucene following the Lucene/Solr merge, so Solr 3.1 contains Lucene 3.1. Solr 3.1 is the first release after Solr 1.4.1. The changes include New spatial search, faster termvector-based highlighter, Suggester, a fast trie-based autocomplete component, Apache UIMA integration for metadata extraction and lot more.
Linux 3.7 has been released on 10 Dec 2012. Its new features include ARM 64-bit support, Cryptographically-signed kernel modules, Btrfs updates, Perf trace, an alternative to strace, TCP Fast Open (server side), Experimental SMB 2 protocol support, NFS v4.1 support no longer experimental, Virtual extensible LAN tunneling protocol, Intel "supervisor mode access prevention" support and lot more.
