Visualization Toolkit
The Visualization Toolkit (VTK) is an open-source, freely available software system for 3D computer graphics, image processing and visualization. VTK supports a wide variety of visualization algorithms including: scalar, vector, tensor, texture, and volumetric methods; and advanced modeling techniques such as: implicit modeling, polygon reduction, mesh smoothing, cutting, contouring, and Delaunay triangulation. VTK has an extensive information visualization framework, has a suite of 3D interaction widgets, supports parallel processing, and integrates with various databases on GUI toolkits such as Qt and Tk.

OpenSceneGraph - 3D graphics toolkit
The OpenSceneGraph is an open source high performance 3D graphics toolkit, used by application developers in fields such as visual simulation, games, virtual reality, scientific visualization and modelling. It is based around the concept of a SceneGraph, providing an object-oriented framework on top of OpenGL. This frees the developer from implementing and optimizing low-level graphics calls and provides many additional utilities for rapid development of graphics applications.
OpenCV - Open Source Computer Vision
OpenCV (Open Source Computer Vision) is a library of programming functions for real time computer vision. The library has more than 500 optimized algorithms. It is used to interactive art, to mine inspection, stitching maps on the web on through advanced robotics.
UnQLite - An Embeddable NoSQL Database Engine
UnQLite is a in-process software library which implements a self-contained, serverless, zero-configuration, transactional NoSQL database engine. UnQLite is a document store database as well a standard Key/Value store. The database file format is cross-platform, you can freely copy a database between 32-bit and 64-bit systems or between big-endian and little-endian architectures.
Openvis3d - Open Source 3D Vision Library
The goal of this project is to provide a library of efficient 3D computer vision routines for image and video processing. It includes routines for dense stereo matching, optical flow (motion) estimation, occlusion detection, and egomotion (3D self-motion) estimation.
Jx9 - An Embeddable Scripting Engine
Jx9 is an embeddable scripting engine that implements a Turing complete programming language based on JSON. Jx9 is the ideal library to use in applications that require modern and efficient scripting support such as games, database systems, text editors, network applications and so forth. Jx9 also natively supports multi-threading and the concept of separate engine handles and virtual machines.
Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit
ITK is an open-source, cross-platform system that provides developers with an extensive suite of software tools for image analysis. Developed through extreme programming methodologies, ITK employs leading-edge algorithms for registering and segmenting multidimensional data.
Spyder
Spyder is a Python development environment with advanced editing, interactive testing, debugging and introspection features. It is especially recommended for scientific computing thanks to NumPy (linear algebra), SciPy (signal and image processing), matplotlib (interactive 2D/3D plotting) and MayaVi’s mlab (interactive 3D visualization) support.
GRASS GIS - Geographic Resources Analysis Support System
Geographic Resources Analysis Support System, commonly referred to as GRASS GIS, is a Geographic Information System (GIS) used for data management, image processing, graphics production, spatial modelling, and visualization of many types of data. GRASS supports raster and vector data in two and three dimensions. The vector data model is topological, meaning that areas are defined by boundaries and centroids; boundaries cannot overlap within a single layer.
Freemat - A Matlab alternative
FreeMat is a free environment for rapid engineering and scientific prototyping and data processing. It is similar to commercial systems such as MATLAB and IDL. It has built in arithmetic for manipulation of all supported data types, N-dimensional array manipulation, 2D and 3D plotting and image display, Visualization, Image manipulation, and as well as parallel programming.
ImageMagick
ImageMagick is a software suite to create, edit, and compose bitmap images. It can read, convert and write images in a variety of formats (over 100) including DPX, EXR, GIF, JPEG, JPEG-2000, PDF, PhotoCD, PNG, Postscript, SVG, and TIFF. Use ImageMagick to translate, flip, mirror, rotate, scale, shear and transform images, adjust image colors, apply various special effects, or draw text, lines, polygons, ellipses and Bézier curves.
